Promotional Testing Protocols

It is important to follow protocols when testing to insure a smooth test time for all involved. Many times there are people watching the test and students should follow protocols in order to look the best for the observers.

  1. Arrive 30 minutes early to stretch for the test.
  2. Wear only the approved uniform. Uniforms should be freshly washed and pressed.
  3. Do not forget your belt.
  4. Notify the test coordinator of any injury before the test starts.
  5. Address all judges or examiners as "Shim Sa Kwan Nim"
  6. When called to line up, whether at the start or for your color bet to line up, answer "sir or ma'am" loudly and with enthusiasm.
  7. Upon hearing your color belt name called, answer with "sir or ma'am" snap up to attention and bow. Run to the necessary spot to start, snap to attention, bow and go into parade rest.
  8. When told to sit, say "Ko Map Sum Ni Da" walk to your spot and sit. When walking back do not turn your back to the examiners for any reason.
  9. When not on the floor sit quietly. No taking or whispering. Sit with legs crossed, back straight, hands on knees, if you need to stretch your legs do so quickly and quietly.
  10. If you must step out of the area, ask permission and so quickly and quietly.
  11. You should expect to remain for the entire test regardless of your time involvement, if you must leave early, discuss with the head instructor.
  12. All test forms, membership cards and fees must be presented prior to the test
  13. Be serious and enthusiastic in all drills, forms, and sparring. Always break with confidence.
  14. If you make a mistake on a form, stop and ask permission to start again, and then continue. You are allowed three starts.
  15. When doing forms in a group try to stay together. Watch your own control. Remain at the last technique until told to ba ro.
  16. When sparring and breaking is occurring, cheering and clapping is allowed to bring camaraderie and spirit to the activity, be careful not be distracting in your cheering.
  17. When the test is dismissed, congratulate each other.
